Basic DBS Check
Due to the nature of the work carried out by BiKBBI members in consumers homes, sometimes working with the elderly, vulnerable adults and in homes with children, we require our members to hold a Certificate of Basic Disclosure, dated within the last 24 months.
The requirement is in place to protect the best interests of our members, their customers and their families. Of course, we wish we lived in a society where it wasn’t needed.
Anyone can apply for a basic disclosure certificate.
A basic disclosure is the most common disclosure available. It includes information on any ‘unspent’ convictions the person has.
Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, some criminal convictions can be treated as ‘spent’ – meaning they’re not relevant to basic disclosure – after a certain length of time. Spent convictions are not included on a basic disclosure.
How much is a certificate of Basic Disclosure?
A certificate costs £25.
How long does a certificate of Basic Disclsoure last?
Basic Disclosure is not monitored, so the certificate is only valid when it’s created and not for a specific length of time. BiKBBI use this information as an indication, one of many within our entry criteria. We require members to sumbit a new certificate every 2 years throughout their membership.
Therefore, any certificate submitted to BiKBBI must be dated within the last 24 months.
